MASTER CANINE ENDOCRINOLOGY
WITH CONFIDENCE

Learn a clear, step-by-step approach to endocrine cases in just 5 weeks with guidance from a board-certified specialist.

Course Plan at a Glance

Every week you'll unlock the next topic in the sequence shown below. You can watch each video as many times as you like until the second exam window closes.

Week 1: Canine Diabetes Mellitus

Understand the Disease. Diagnose with Confidence.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common and challenging endocrine disorders in dogs. This module helps you build a strong foundation in canine diabetes from the ground up. You'll learn how insulin works, why deficiency develops, and how prolonged hyperglycaemia affects different organ systems. We'll walk step by step through:

- The pathophysiology of canine diabetes mellitus
- The different types and causes, including immune-mediated and secondary diabetes
- Breed predispositions and risk factors
- Classic clinical signs like polyuria, polydipsia, weight loss, and cataracts
- The complete diagnostic approach: history, physical exam, laboratory tests, urinalysis, and imaging
- How to interpret persistent hyperglycaemia and glucosuria, distinguish stress hyperglycaemia, and identify concurrent diseases that complicate diagnosis

By the end of this module, you will feel confident in recognising diabetes mellitus in dogs, avoiding common diagnostic pitfalls, and building a clear, stepwise plan for every patient.

Week 2: Canine Diabetes Treatment

Start Smart. Stay Safe. Adjust Confidently.

Successful diabetes management begins with a strong treatment plan and confident client education. In this module, you'll learn how to initiate therapy safely, select the right insulin, and set your patients and their owners up for success. We'll cover:

- How to choose and dose insulin types, including Lente, NPH, PZI, Glargine, and Detemir
- Insulin handling, storage, and administration techniques—including pens and syringes
- Dietary management: low carbohydrate, high fibre, and strategies for weight loss or maintenance
- The role of exercise and how to balance activity with insulin therapy
- Step-by-step protocols for avoiding and treating hypoglycaemia
- How to communicate clearly with owners about treatment routines and early warning signs

By the end of this module, you'll be able to start diabetic dogs safely, stabilise them effectively, and support owners through the first crucial weeks of therapy.

Week 3: Canine Diabetes Monitoring and Troubleshooting

Solve Problems Early.

Once a diabetic dog is on treatment, success depends on consistent monitoring and confident decision-making. This module teaches you how to interpret results, recognise patterns, and make evidence-based adjustments. We'll cover:

- Monitoring strategies: blood glucose curves, fructosamine, and urine glucose
- How to interpret data and decide when to adjust insulin doses
- Identifying and managing common problems: Somogyi effect, insulin resistance, poor owner compliance
- How to assess diabetic control in the real world (not just perfect textbook cases)
- How to coach owners for accurate home monitoring and long-term success

By the end of this module, you'll have a systematic approach to evaluating diabetic control, troubleshooting challenges, and fine-tuning therapy to keep your patients safe and stable.

Week 4: Canine Hyperadrenocorticism

Recognise. Diagnose. Manage Effectively.

Cushing's disease can present in many ways, from subtle skin changes to dramatic metabolic complications. This module teaches you how to identify canine hyperadrenocorticism with clarity and precision. We'll explore:

- The pathophysiology of pituitary-dependent and adrenal-dependent hyperadrenocorticism in dogs
- Classic clinical presentations, including PU/PD, abdominal distension, alopecia, and muscle weakness
- Uncommon signs like thromboembolic disease and insulin-resistant diabetes
- A structured diagnostic approach: screening tests (LDDST, ACTH stim, UCCR), differentiation protocols (HDDST, eACTH, imaging), and how to interpret results correctly
- Treatment options: medical therapy with trilostane or mitotane, and when to consider adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy
- Monitoring protocols and adjusting therapy over time
- Managing complications and educating owners about realistic expectations

By the end of this module, you will be able to accurately diagnose Cushing's disease, select the most effective treatment approach for each dog, and effectively monitor therapy.

Week 5: Canine Hypothyroidism

Detect Early. Confirm Accurately. Treat Reliably.

Hypothyroidism is common in dogs but often misunderstood. This module gives you the clarity and structure you need to diagnose confidently and avoid over-treatment. You'll learn:

- The pathophysiology of primary, secondary, and congenital hypothyroidism in dogs
- How to recognise the wide range of clinical signs, including dermatologic, neurologic, metabolic, reproductive, and cardiac presentations
- How to interpret total T4, free T4, TSH, and thyroglobulin autoantibodies—and when additional tests like scintigraphy or TSH stimulation are needed
- Factors that affect thyroid testing, including non-thyroidal illness, medications, and breed variations
- How to design treatment plans with levothyroxine, including dosing strategies, monitoring schedules, and troubleshooting inadequate responses
- When and how to consider a therapeutic trial
- How to avoid and manage iatrogenic hyperthyroidism

By the end of this module, you will be prepared to diagnose canine hypothyroidism with confidence, establish safe treatment plans, and support long-term monitoring for successful outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Email us at hello@thevettribe.com
We're here to help!

Are the lessons live?

No, after five years of running online courses we know veterinarians and vet students prefer to study when it suits them. All teaching is delivered as pre-recorded videos (5-20 min each) grouped into weekly modules (about 2h of content per module). This format also avoids time-zone clashes and 5 a.m. alarms.

Do I get all modules at once?

No. The course is designed to release modules gradually so you have time to absorb each topic before moving on. As soon as you enroll, Module 1 unlocks right away, and then a new module becomes available every 7 days from your enrollment date (regardless of which day of the week you sign up).

You'll have access to all content for 12 weeks in total from the day you enroll, so you can revisit videos and resources as often as you like.

Will I have contact with the mentor?

Yes. You’ll be part of The Vet Tribe Community - available on our website or through the app. That’s where you can ask questions and get answers from mentors and the wider community. Whether you’re stuck on a case, curious about a detail, or just want to share your progress, you won’t be learning alone. Read, post, connect, and keep growing - together.

Will I get a certificate after completing the course?

Yes! To earn your certificate, you’ll need to pass the online exam with a score of 70% or higher. Your personalised certificate will be issued once you’ve met that requirement. This ensures that only students who have genuinely engaged with and understood the material receive certification.

How long do I keep access to course materials?

You'll have full access to the course for 12 weeks from the day you sign up. Learn at your own pace, revisit modules, and stay connected the whole way through.

How long can I watch the videos?

This is a 6-week course with one module unlocked each week to keep you focused. You'll have full access to all content and replays for 12 weeks from the moment you enroll.

The videos sound quiet – what can I do?

Some browsers default to 30% volume. Click the speaker icon in the lower-left of the player and raise the level. If that fails, clear your browser cookies, check your device's audio settings or try another device/headphones.

Can I log in from multiple devices?

Your purchase is for one person. The system flags simultaneous log-ins; misuse may lead to your account being suspended.

Can I download all the materials?

All PDFs, workbooks and documents can be saved locally. Videos cannot be downloaded - this protects the content from piracy.

Should I print the workbook?

Highly recommended. Many vets find it easier to write notes by hand, but you can just as easily use the PDF alongside your own digital or paper notebook.

Is the exam live?

The exam is hosted on our online platform. Once it unlocks, you can start it anytime and complete it at your own pace. You'll need a score of 70% or higher to pass and receive your certificate.

Do I get complimentary access to The Vet Tribe Community?

Yes. When you join the course, you get free access to The Vet Tribe Community for 6 months. It’s your space to ask questions, connect with mentors and other vets, share your wins, and keep learning together. After 6 months, you can choose to continue or leave - no pressure, cancel anytime.

What if it's not the right fit?

We've got you. If you decide the course isn't for you, just email us during the first week after enrolling - before Module 2 unlocks - and we'll give you a 100% refund, no questions asked.

Can I split my payment?

Split your payment at no extra cost! Get started today by paying just half the course fee. The second half is automatically charged in one month. No interest, no hidden fees - just an easy way to make the course more accessible.
