TAKE CONTROL OF SMALL ANIMAL OPHTHALMOLOGY WITH CONFIDENCE

Master small animal ophthalmology in just 6 weeks - guided by a board-certified specialist.

Course Plan at a Glance

Week 1: Ophthalmic Examination & Diagnostics

Eye exams can feel unclear and rushed, especially when you’re not sure what to look for first. In this module, you’ll learn a clear, step-by-step way to approach every eye case. You’ll learn how to:

  • Take a focused ophthalmic history
  • Perform a full eye exam in the correct order
  • Use fluorescein stain and tonometry correctly
  • Avoid common mistakes that lead to missed findings

Real case examples will show you how to apply this in practice. By the end, you’ll have a clear system for every consultation.

Week 2: Glaucoma

This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of and differentiating between primary and secondary glaucoma, focusing on the physiological effects of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). We provide practical diagnostic tips, guidance on case selection, and a review of both medical and surgical treatment options including shunts, laser surgery, and enucleation. Additionally, the session highlights strategies for effective client communication to ensure long-term treatment compliance. You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognise early signs of glaucoma
  • Measure and interpret intraocular pressure
  • Tell the difference between primary and secondary glaucoma
  • Start treatment quickly
  • Know when referral or surgery is needed

By the end, you’ll feel more confident making decisions in these cases.

Week 3: Ophthalmic Emergencies

This session equips veterinary professionals with a practical framework for diagnosing and managing urgent ocular conditions.

  • Recognise common eye emergencies
  • Assess severity and vision quickly
  • Decide what needs immediate action
  • Manage cases like orbital abnormalities, corneal lacerations, uveitis, lens luxations, glaucoma, and retinal detachments
  • You will learn to differentiate between cases requiring medical management versus those needing immediate surgical intervention, ultimately enhancing clinical confidence and patient outcomes.

Case examples will guide you step by step so you don’t hesitate when it matters.

Week 4: Corneal Disease & Ulcers

Many corneal cases look similar, but treatment is very different. This module helps you understand what you’re seeing. You’ll learn how to:

  • Tell the difference between stromal ulcers and descemetoceles
  • Decide when debridement is enough and when surgery is needed
  • Recognise “melting” ulcers early and manage them safely
  • Understand current treatment options and when to use them
  • Choose clear, safe treatment plans you can apply in practice
  • Identify common corneal diseases such as pannus and lipid or calcium deposits
  • Tell the difference between conditions that look similar but need different treatment

By the end, you’ll feel more confident managing these cases.

Week 5: Posterior Segment & Retinal Disease

The back of the eye can feel difficult to assess, especially in cases of vision loss. In this module, you’ll learn a clear and structured way to approach the posterior segment. You’ll learn how to:

  • Perform a basic fundic exam with confidence
  • Recognise common retinal lesions
  • Identify systemic diseases that affect the eye
  • Tell the difference between ocular and neurological causes of blindness
  • Approach conditions like SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) in a clear and practical way

Week 6: Examination

What vets say about The Vet Tribe

You do not have to take our word for it. Here are a few words from vets and students who have already joined The Vet Tribe.

“I tried out the trauma course myself and learnt so much across five modules with videos on how to assess trauma and what to do, as well as case examples that apply to real life situations.”

@dr.mirunamunteanu

“I loved that the course was self-paced, so I could still complete it amongst my busy schedule. And I found the interactive case studies very valuable, as this is my favourite was to learn.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Email us at hello@thevettribe.com
We're here to help!

Are the lessons live?

No, after five years of running online courses we know veterinarians and vet students prefer to study when it suits them. All teaching is delivered as pre-recorded videos (5-20 min each) grouped into weekly modules (about 2h of content per module). This format also avoids time-zone clashes and 5 a.m. alarms.

Do I get all modules at once?

No. The course is designed to release modules gradually so you have time to absorb each topic before moving on. Module 1 unlocks on a set date, and then a new module becomes available every 7 days from your enrollment date.

You'll have access to all content for 6 months in total from the day you enroll, so you can revisit videos and resources as often as you like.

Will I have contact with the mentor?

Yes. You’ll be part of The Vet Tribe Community - available on our website or through the app. That’s where you can ask questions and get answers from mentors and the wider community. Whether you’re stuck on a case, curious about a detail, or just want to share your progress, you won’t be learning alone. Read, post, connect, and keep growing - together.

Will I get a certificate after completing the course?

Yes! To earn your certificate, you’ll need to pass the online exam with a score of 70% or higher. Your personalised certificate will be issued once you’ve met that requirement. This ensures that only students who have genuinely engaged with and understood the material receive certification.

How long do I keep access to course materials?

You'll have full access to the course for 6 months from the day you sign up. Learn at your own pace, revisit modules, and stay connected the whole way through.

How long can I watch the videos?

This is a 6-week course with one module unlocked each week to keep you focused. You'll have full access to all content and replays for 6 months from the moment you enroll.

The videos sound quiet – what can I do?

Some browsers default to 30% volume. Click the speaker icon in the lower-left of the player and raise the level. If that fails, clear your browser cookies, check your device's audio settings or try another device/headphones.

Can I log in from multiple devices?

Your purchase is for one person. The system flags simultaneous log-ins; misuse may lead to your account being suspended.

Can I download all the materials?

All PDFs, workbooks and documents can be saved locally. Videos cannot be downloaded - this protects the content from piracy.

Should I print the workbook?

Highly recommended. Many vets find it easier to write notes by hand, but you can just as easily use the PDF alongside your own digital or paper notebook.

Is the exam live?

The exam is hosted on our online platform. Once it unlocks, you can start it anytime and complete it at your own pace. You'll need a score of 70% or higher to pass and receive your certificate.

Do I get complimentary access to The Vet Tribe Community?

Yes. When you join the course, you get free access to The Vet Tribe Community for 6 months. It’s your space to ask questions, connect with mentors and other vets, share your wins, and keep learning together. After 6 months, you can choose to continue or leave - no pressure, cancel anytime.

What if it's not the right fit?

We've got you. If you decide the course isn't for you, just email us during the first week after enrolling - before Module 2 unlocks - and we'll give you a 100% refund, no questions asked.

Can I split my payment?

Split your payment at no extra cost! Get started today by paying just half the course fee. The second half is automatically charged in one month. No interest, no hidden fees - just an easy way to make the course more accessible.
