Course Plan at a Glance

Every week you’ll unlock the next topic in the sequence shown below. You can watch each video as many times as you like until the second exam window closes.

Week 1: Pre-Anaesthetic Workup

Prepared, not panicked.

Learn how to plan an anaesthetic properly - before you touch a syringe.

- Targeted exams
- Breed-specific flags
- Fasting & meds
- ASA status
- Machine checklists

You’ll finish this module with a repeatable framework for assessing any patient - understanding how breed, medications, age, and condition affect anaesthetic risk - and know exactly how to prep your machine, assign ASA status, and explain the process clearly to clients.

Lesson 1: Introduction
In this module, Dr. Kristi Kobluk walks you through what this module will cover and how it connects to everyday clinical decision-making. Whether you are handling routine procedures or complex cases, this introduction helps frame the mindset needed to anaesthetise with intention and confidence.

Lesson 2: Physical Examination
Before the monitors, comes your hands, eyes, and ears. This sub-module breaks down how to conduct a purposeful pre-anaesthetic exam — focusing on the heart, lungs, mucous membranes, and more. Learn what to listen for, what subtle signs can mean, and how your findings feed into risk assessment and planning.

Lesson 3: Patient History and Medications
What you ask matters. Explore how to take a thorough history with anaesthesia in mind. You'll cover breed-specific red flags, important medication protocols, and what to do if a patient arrives having just eaten or taken their morning meds. A practical guide for protecting your patient before they even hit the table.

Lesson 4: Bloodwork
Numbers tell a story — if you know how to read them. This section helps you interpret key blood values like PCV, TP, glucose, and lactate in the context of anaesthesia. Learn what findings should pause your plan, when a transfusion might be necessary, and how to spot underlying disease that could complicate recovery.

Lesson 5: Imaging
Not every patient needs it, but when they do, it matters. This sub-module walks you through how thoracic and abdominal imaging, especially radiographs, play into pre-anaesthetic assessment. Review case-based examples that help sharpen your eye for signs of aspiration, heart failure, or GDV before you proceed.

Lesson 6: Assigning ASA Status
The ASA system isn’t just a label — it’s a tool. Here, you’ll learn how to use ASA status to assess anaesthetic risk and communicate it clearly with your team and clients. Real-world case examples walk you through how to assign status based on systemic disease severity, urgency, and expected outcomes.

Lesson 7: Machine and Equipment Setup
A good anaesthetic plan means nothing without the right setup. Learn how to choose and check your equipment — from rebreathing vs non-rebreathing circuits to flow rate calculations and bag sizing. Get confident in building a machine setup that fits your patient’s size and condition.

Lesson 8: Case Setup Example
It’s time to put it all together. In this case-based sub-module, you’ll walk through anaesthetic machine selection, bag size calculation, and oxygen flow rate determination using real patient examples. The goal is to bridge theory and practice, helping you feel more at ease during prep, especially under pressure.

Week 2: Sedation & Premedication

Right drug. Right dose. Right outcome.

Build drug plans that make sense - and work in real life.

- Protocols for tough patients

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Email us at [email protected]
We're here to help!

Are the lessons live?

No, after five years of running online courses we know veterinarians and vet students prefer to study when it suits them. All teaching is delivered as pre-recorded videos (5-20 min each) grouped into weekly modules (about 2h of content per module). This format also avoids time-zone clashes and 5 a.m. alarms.

Do I get all modules at once?

No. The course is designed to release modules gradually so you have time to absorb each topic before moving on. As soon as you enroll, Module 1 unlocks right away, and then a new module becomes available every 7 days from your enrollment date (regardless of which day of the week you sign up).

You'll have access to all content for 12 weeks in total from the day you enroll, so you can revisit videos and resources as often as you like.

Will I have contact with the mentor?

Yes. You'll be part of The Vet Tribe Community - available on our website or through the app. That's where you can ask questions and get answers from Dr. Kristi or the wider community. Whether you're stuck on a case, curious about a detail, or just want to share your progress, you won't be learning alone. Read, post, connect and keep growing - together.

Will I get a certificate after completing the course?

Yes! To earn your certificate, you'll need to pass the online exam with a score of 70% or higher. Your personalised certificate - signed by Dr Kristi - will be issued once you've met that requirement. We do this to ensure that only students who have genuinely engaged with and understood the material receive certification.

How long do I keep access to course materials?

You'll have full access to the course for 12 weeks from the day you sign up. Learn at your own pace, revisit modules, and stay connected the whole way through.

How long can I watch the videos?

This is a 6-week course with one module unlocked each week to keep you focused. You'll have full access to all content and replays for 12 weeks from the moment you enroll.

The videos sound quiet – what can I do?

Some browsers default to 30% volume. Click the speaker icon in the lower-left of the player and raise the level. If that fails, clear your browser cookies, check your device's audio settings or try another device/headphones.

Can I log in from multiple devices?

Your purchase is for one person. The system flags simultaneous log-ins; misuse may lead to your account being suspended.

Can I download all the materials?

All PDFs, workbooks and documents can be saved locally. Videos cannot be downloaded - this protects the content from piracy.

Should I print the workbook?

Highly recommended. Many vets find it easier to write notes by hand, but you can just as easily use the PDF alongside your own digital or paper notebook.

Is the exam live?

The exam is hosted on our online platform. Once it unlocks, you can start it anytime and complete it at your own pace. You'll need a score of 70% or higher to pass and receive your certificate.

Do I get complimentary access to The Vet Tribe Community?

Yes. When you join the course, you get free access to The Vet Tribe Community for 6 months. It's your space to ask questions, connect with Dr. Kristi and other vets, share your wins, and keep learning together. After 6 months, you can choose to continue or leave - no pressure, cancel anytime.

What if it's not the right fit?

We've got you. If you decide the course isn't for you, just email us during the first week after enrolling - before Module 2 unlocks - and we'll give you a 100% refund, no questions asked.

Can I split my payment?

Split your payment at no extra cost! Get started today by paying just half the course fee. The second half is automatically charged in one month. No interest, no hidden fees - just an easy way to make the course more accessible.
